Lips have the ability to balance the facial features and provide a soft, feminine appearance. However, aging lips can lose their volume and shape, as the body’s natural stores of fat and collagen are depleted. While not all women are born with the perfect pout, over the years, even the best lips can fade. Until recently, options for lip enhancement have been limited. Not everyone is ready for the commitment of lip implants, and traditional dermal fillers cannot always achieve the desired results.
Today, however, patients in Sonoma and Novato have an innovative, new choice for restoring full, contoured lips without the hassle of surgery: Juvederm Volbella®. This one-of-a-kind dermal filler can provide immediate definition for the lips and the vermillion border (lip border). The smooth gel injectable can also reduce lip lines, restoring an attractive mouth and youthful appearance. Plastic Surgery Associates is among the first offices to bring Juvederm Volbella® to Sonoma and Marin County patients, providing easy lip enhancement with long-lasting results.
Volbella® at Plastic Surgery Associates:
Juvederm Volbella® was created specifically to add volume to the lips and delicate peri-oral tissues. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration, Volbella® is a safe and effective method for restoring volume loss around the mouth. Made with Juvederm’s patented Vycross™ technology, Volbella® has a creamy formula that injects smoothly to plump targeted tissues. Derived from Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance, a Volbella® treatment holds little risk for complications.
Benefits of Volbella® include:
- Plump and shape lips
- Restore lip borders
- Erase lip lines or Smoker’s Lines
- Form Cupid’s Bow or ‘M’ on top lip
- Restore volume in the peri-oral area
For more complete facial rejuvenation, Plastic Surgery Associates’ Dr. Francisco Canales or Dr. Heather Furnas may recommend additional injectibles, such as Botox Cosmetic or Juvederm, to further improve fine lines and deep wrinkles. Kybella, a technologically advanced option for eliminating submental fat (the double chin), can also be paired with Volbella® for optimal results.
The Volbella® Consultation:
To determine the right lip enhancement technique for an individual, a one-on-one consultation will be scheduled with Dr. Canales or Dr. Furnas. At this time, the surgeons will review a patient’s medical history and perform a quick examination. They will also discuss the patient’s short-term and long-term aesthetic goals. Dr. Canales and Dr. Furnas will then explain the dermal filler treatment process, including the recovery and expected results. Side-effects and the potential for complications will also be discussed. If Volbella® is the best noninvasive treatment, a personalized treatment plan will be created.
Good Candidates for Juvederm Volbella®:
The ideal candidate for Volbella® will be over 21 years old and in generally good health. Patients should understand the dermal filler process and specific instructions for their recovery. They should also hold reasonable expectations for their final results. Those with a known allergy to lidocaine or gram-positive bacteria should not have Volbella® injections. Women who are pregnant, nursing, or with an active skin infection may need to postpone treatment. Dr. Canales and Dr. Furnas will help determine if Volbella® is right for the potential patient’s needs and desired results during the consultation.
Volbella® Injections at Plastic Surgery Associates:
Injections with Juvederm Volbella® will be performed in one of the Plastic Surgery Associates’ private treatment rooms. Once the treatment area has been determined, Volbella® injections are administered. As Volbella® is premixed with lidocaine, a local anesthetic, the injections are not painful. As each is applied, the lips are gently numbed. Additional anesthetics are available upon request. Each Volbella® session will take less than half an hour.
Results from Volbella®:
No downtime is necessary after Volbella® ® injections. Patients can return to their normal activities the same afternoon. The benefits of Juvederm Volbella® can be seen immediately after injection. Over the following months, the Hyaluronic Acid will continue to hold in moisture and encourage the body’s production of collagen. Results will last for up to a year, at which time a repeat Volbella® session can extend the lip-plumping benefits.
Risks of Volbella®:
Juvederm Volbella® is FDA-approved as safe for improving lip shape and eliminating lip lines. Created using a lower concentration of HA than traditional fillers, Volbella® draws in less moisture, meaning a lower chance for unexpected swelling. Side-effects of treatment are mild and quickly resolve, including redness, tenderness, pinpoint bleeding and bruising. Itching is also common. When applied by a trained provider, Juvederm Volbella® holds little chance for serious complications. In rare instances, however, nerve damage, nodules, and infection could occur.
