Santa Rosa plastic surgeon Dr. Francisco Canales was educated and trained at two of the most prestigious academic institutions in the country: Harvard College and Stanford University. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors at Harvard College in 1978, he then completed his medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1982. Dr. Canales was particularly interested in plastic surgery and elected to take on additional surgical training and received a Plastic Surgery Residency at Stanford University Hospital.

Dr. Canales' Background
Before becoming a well-established plastic surgeon in Santa Rosa, Dr. Canales owned and operated a practice in Boston, Massachusetts. There, he also worked as a faculty member in the division of plastic surgery at Harvard Medical School.
When he relocated to Sonoma County, Dr. Canales served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and as Chief of Surgery at Warrack Hospital. In 1992 he co-founded Plastic Surgery Associates with his wife, Dr. Heather Furnas. He is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the elite American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Originally from Puerto Rico, Dr. Canales feels a strong connection to Latin America and volunteers his skill and experience repairing cleft lips and birth defects to children in Nicaragua, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Argentina, and Kenya.
When not serving the plastic surgery needs of people locally and internationally, Dr. Canales enjoys Masters Swimming with the Santa Rosa Masters Swimming Team and spending time with his wife and two children, Diego and Siena.
